With the 2022 show season winding down, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has recently selected its two winners in the second annual Chevrolet Performance Builder of the Year program. The names are familiar to those in the performance aftermarket: Big Oak Garage and Hollywood Hot Rods.

 

With the 2022 show season winding down, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has recently selected its two winners in the second annual Chevrolet Performance Builder of the Year program. The names are familiar to those in the performance aftermarket: Big Oak Garage and Hollywood Hot Rods.

Big Oak Garage proprietor Will Posey and his team at their Hokes Bluff, Alabama-based shop won in the Chevrolet Performance GM Iron category for a 1961 Impala powered by a Lamar Walden-built, fuel-injected 509 cu.-in. W engine. The GM Iron award recognizes a General Motors vehicle utilizing a GM powertrain.

The Impala's engine features a polished aluminum block and cylinder heads, a vintage Offenhauser intake and Autotrend EFI throttle bodies, along with a custom air cleaner and custom valve covers. The power plant is backed by a TREMEC T56 Magnum transmission.

The car rides on a Roadster Shop chassis and also features a variety of custom body modifications. The Impala is painted in a custom-mixed green-metallic from Axalta, while the off-white leather upholstery with tan suede inserts was created by Recovery Room.

For the win, Big Oak Garage is set to receive a Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain System with an LT4 crate engine* and 8L90-E eight-speed automatic transmission.

 

Hollywood Hot Rods is responsible for this stunning 1932 Ford build.

 

Meanwhile, Troy Ladd and Burbank, California's Hollywood Hot Rods took home the Chevrolet Performance GM Retro Iron award. Its winning build is a 1932 Ford with a '49 331 cu.-in. Cadillac V-8 featuring dual Stromberg carburetors and a TREMEC five-speed transmission. The GM Retro Iron category recognizes a non-GM vehicle with a powertrain from General Motors.

The elegant three-window Deuce incorporates elements from American hot rodding and European racing. It utilizes a custom, hand-fabricated frame and the body includes multiple examples of custom metalwork.

 

A painstakingly detailed 331 cu.-in Cadillac engine powers the '32 Ford.

 

Mick's Paint painted the car in a dark metallic brown, which is accented by a variety of one-off stainless steel parts. The two-tone leather upholstery on the bucket seats is by Elegance Auto Interiors, while exquisite craftsmanship highlights everything from the gauges to the shifter.

With its selection as GM Retro Iron Builder of the Year, Hollywood Hot Rods will receive a Connect & Cruise package with a ZZ6 EFI crate engine* and a Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four-speed automatic.

Both the '61 Impala and '32 Ford are set to appear at the Goodguys Southwest Nationals, slated for November 18-20 at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona.
