Team Chevy driver Josef Newgarden scored his second consecutive win in the PPG 375 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, taking the checkered flag in a gripping NTT INDYCAR SERIES race from start to finish.

Newgarden started from the fourth spot and led eight times for a race-high 123 laps in his Team Penske No. 2 machine powered by a 2.2L direct-injected, twin-turbo V-6 Chevy engine. However, although Newgarden led the most laps, he and the other front-runners traded the lead often during the 250-lap contest on the 1.5-mile oval near Fort Worth, Texas. In fact, the race featured a total of 26 lead changes among eight drivers as much of the field ran side-by-side.

Newgarden and fellow Chevrolet driver Pato O'Ward exchanged the top spot five times in the last eight laps after a late-race restart with 12 laps remaining had brought the field back together for one final shootout. Newgarden took the lead for the final time on Lap 249 just before the yellow flag flew to end the race under caution.

The win was Newgarden's first of the year, his third at Texas and the 26th of his career. He has also now won a race in nine consecutive seasons.

"There were no gimmies, it was just packed up today," said Newgarden, a two-time series champion. "It was very difficult to get away. There were parts where we were really good, parts where we were weaker and when we needed to be good, the car was there at the end. So proud of this team.

"After St. Pete I was kind of rethinking everything and thinking, ‘Can we do this again?'  But I am so happy to be here and want to thank Team Chevy for all their support and to PPG obviously. Given the title (sponsor) here, it's just a big day for everybody."

O'Ward came home second for Arrow McLaren and dominated the middle portion of the race, at one time lapping everyone on track but the second-place car. O'Ward has finished in the runner-up spot in the season's first two races and holds the points lead heading into the next event on the Long Beach Street Circuit.

Additionally, Scott McLaughlin finished sixth and Callum Illot came home ninth to give Team Chevy four of the top-10 finishers at Texas.

Newgarden's win was the eighth at Texas Motor Speedway for Chevrolet since 2012 and its 107th overall since rejoining the series as an engine supplier that year.

On Sunday, not only did the Bowtie take the victory, it did so in electrifying fashion.
