Wallpaper Wednesday: LT4 Crate Engine in a 1967 Camaro

Here at The BLOCK, sometimes we come across a Chevrolet Performance crate engine* build that just looks natural. Tom Panaseny’s LT4*-powered 1967 Camaro definitely fits the bill.

The car was built by Goolsby Customs in Hueytown, Alabama. It began life as a base-model Camaro, making it a perfect choice for a restomod.

Panaseny, who lives in Tampa, Florida, was familiar with the LT4, having owned late-model Chevrolet vehicles with the supercharged mill.

“It's got a big fat torque curve, it's just a lot of fun,” Panaseny says of the engine.

Indeed, the supercharged 6.2L LT4 is factory-rated at 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

When Panaseny and shop proprietor Jonathan Goolsby went over plans for the car, they found they had similar ideas, including their thoughts about the power plant.

“I push LT4s in every car that I can,” Goolsby says. “That is my go-to motor. I bet you if there are 10 cars in the shop, eight of them are going to have the LT4 if they're GM cars. The reliability and having the stupid power if you need it – that is the best package I've ever seen.”

The modern LT4 looks right at home in the engine bay of the silver Camaro. That’s just what Pansaeny and the Goolsby team were trying to accomplish; they set out to create a build that looks like it could have rolled off the General Motors assembly line with the LT4 under the hood.
