North Carolina is undeniably the heart of stock car country. Some of NASCAR's all-time greats are natives of the state, while the vast majority of the teams are based in the greater Charlotte area. In addition, grassroots short track racing is thriving in the Tar Heel State.

Chevrolet is well represented across all levels, ranging from grassroots racers utilizing Chevrolet Performance circle track crate engines* to Team Chevy superstars.

May is perhaps the biggest month of the year for racing in North Carolina, as dozens of events are held, culminating with the crown-jewel NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend.

This year, the final two weeks of May in the Old North State were bigger than ever. Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway also came back to life for NASCAR competition, hosting its first NASCAR events since 1996 with a Craftsman Truck Series race and the Cup Series All-Star Race on the third weekend in May. Team Chevy driver Kyle Larson won both.

The run up to those events included Late Model races at the track spotlighting the ASA STARS and CARS Tour, with Dale Earnhard Jr. participating in the latter.

The following week, the ARCA Menards Series, Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and Cup Series took center stage at Charlotte Motor Speedway. And despite fighting weather all weekend, the holiday events drew massive crowds – even as the Xfinity and Cup events were delayed until Monday.

Plus, more short track races on both dirt and asphalt took place throughout the area as did a variety of special events.
