When the field for the 107th Indianapolis 500 hits the track on Sunday, it will be led for the first time by a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 hardtop convertible.

This is the first generation of the famed Z06 model to feature a hardtop convertible option, meaning the car will add to the Bowtie's storied history at the Brickyard. But while this specific vehicle is a first for the Bowtie, its Pace Car legacy runs deep at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This year's event marks the 34th time that Chevrolet has paced the "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," and the 20th time overall that "America's Sports Car" has held the honor since 1978. In fact, Corvette has paced the Indy 500 more times than any other car.

The 2023 Covette Z06 is powered by a 5.5L LT6 making 670 horsepower, and the 2023 Indy 500 Pace Car also features the Carbon Aero Package – providing 734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph. 

This year's Pace Car sports Red Mist Metallic exterior paint complemented by two-tone Jet Black and Sky Cool Gray with Torch Red accents on the interior. As always, Indianapolis 500 logos can also be found throughout the vehicle.
