Chevrolet Set to be a Major Part of NMCA in 2024

The National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) will blast into the 2024 campaign this month and both Chevrolet and Chevrolet Performance are set to be in the middle of the action all year long.

The six-race slate kicks off on April 11-14 with the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina, and it concludes just over five months later with the NMCA World Street Finals Presented by Chevrolet Performance at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. All events take place at some of America’s most-renowned drag strips east of the Mississippi River.

This year, the LME Street King, ProForm Rumble and Scoggin Dickey Parts Center Street Warrior 10.10 presented by Chevrolet Performance classes will move into center stage to highlight Bowtie power.

The index-style Street King is open to any make or model using a GM LS or LT engine. The class features vehicles running elapsed times quicker than 13 seconds and transbrakes may be used. Cody Poston scored the championship in 2023 driving a 2010 Camaro.

Rumble meanwhile is a sister index class to Street King and is open to the same vehicles and power plants. However, participants must run elapsed times slower than nine seconds, and electronics and transbrakes are prohibited. Cody Poston’s father, Tim Poston, took last year’s title behind the wheel of a supercharged LS3-equipped 2000 Corvette.

New for 2024 is the Scoggin Dickey Parts Center Street Warrior 10.10 presented by Chevrolet Performance class. According to the NMCA website, “the class is designed for American Domestic production vehicles running the ¼-mile in the 9-10 second range, that do not fit into a specific Heads-up class running on a 10.10 single index.”

Street Warrior’s rulebook allows for a wide variety of power plants – including Chevrolet Performance crate engines* – and any style of power adder is permitted. Transmissions may be either manual or automatic and transbrakes are allowed.

While the rulebook for the powertrain setup intentionally features few restrictions, many chassis and suspension components must be stock or stock-appearing, the full factory-type interior must be in place, and aftermarket body panels are limited to certain components. Many competitors have announced their intention to participate in the class, including several who have already found significant success in NMCA.

Chevrolet power is found in a variety of other NMCA classes as well, including everything from Xtreme Pro Mod and Nitrous Pro Street to Micro Strategies Stock, Micro Strategies Super Stock, Holley EFI Factory Super Cars and many more. In the Factory Super Cars ranks, supercharged factory muscle from The Big Three competes heads up for muscle-car supremacy. Many COPO Camaro drivers will once again campaign the purpose-built race car from Chevrolet Performance.

The COPO is also prominently featured at one of NMCA’s many specialty events: the COPO Camaro Shootout during late August’s NMCA All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. The event fetes COPO owners and drivers and features luncheons, parts giveaways, social events and more. Two COPO-specific on-track programs are also part of the yearly showcase. This year, they are the index COPO Bracket Battle and COPO Stock/Super Stock Shootout. Both modern and classic COPO models are eligible to compete.

In 2023, Clarence Harding put his 2014 COPO in the Winner’s Circle in Battle, while Rich Rinke won the program known as N/A Heads-Up in a 2022 COPO model.

Since 2007, the Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout has been an anticipated Chevrolet highlight of the NMCA schedule as well. Taking place during the Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis in early May, the specialty event recognizes racers with a party, dinner and parts raffle. It also awards Chevrolet Performance LSX Bowtie blocks to the winners in LME Street King, Proform Rumble and the Brian Tooley Racing LS Xtreme Street Shootout. The latter is a bonus race made up of vehicles with LS or LT power under the hood that also qualify in Xtreme Street during the weekend.

With both brand-new classes and returning favorites on tap for 2024, NMCA is sure to offer plenty of options for Bowtie enthusiasts.
