John Force Racing Earns Pair of Victories in Phoenix

John Force Racing (JFR) accomplished the rarest of feats over the weekend when the Chevrolet-backed organization won two NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Funny Car events on consecutive days at Chandler, Arizona’s Firebird Motorsports Park.

On Saturday, John Force drove his Camaro SS to his 156th category victory in the final round of the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, which had been delayed by rain two weekends prior at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip and moved to the Phoenix-area Firebird track. The next day, Austin Prock followed up Force’s impressive performance as he claimed his first NHRA Funny Car Wally in the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

Force, the 16-time Funny Car champion and JFR team patriarch, had marched to the final round at Pomona with three consistent runs before the rains came. Force finally clinched the victory at Firebird on Saturday with a pass of 4.033 seconds at 318.24 mph. The win was the first in nearly two years for the driver who will turn 75 years old next month.

“I'm really excited to have pulled this off,” Force said. “I'm too old to even race these kids. It's exciting. I give it all I have and push the limits wherever I can.”

Meanwhile, Prock dominated the weekend’s Arizona Nationals. First, he claimed his second No. 1 qualifier of the season, then drove through the field en route to his second final-round appearance of 2024.

He took his first NHRA Funny Car win in just his third start after a blast of 3.952 seconds at 320.74 mph.

Prock’s victory came for the Funny Car team vacated by Robert Hight as he deals with a medical issue. Prock’s father Jimmy is the crew chief, with Austin’s brother Thomas serving as assistant crew chief. Hight won the Arizona Nationals in 2022 and 2023, giving the team three consecutive victories in the event.

“This is huge, “Austin Prock said. “All you want to do is make your parents proud, and I sure hope they’re proud because I definitely am. My dad and Thomas are doing a great job, along with Nate Hildahl, this whole Cornwell team, and a big win for Chevrolet. A double-up for John Force Racing this weekend, and man, the days don’t get much better than this. What more could you ask for? We’re rolling out of here with some gold, baby.”

Prock is the 19th driver in NHRA history to have won NHRA national events in both Top Fuel and Funny Car, and his Sunday triumph was his fifth victory across both nitro categories.

With Force and Prock’s wins, Chevrolet has now claimed 161 NHRA Funny Car victories since 1967 and 81 in a Camaro-bodied Funny Car.

Force drove to a quarterfinal result in Funny Car at the Arizona Nationals, while daughter Brittany exited in the first round of Top Fuel in her Chevrolet dragster.

The Pro Stock final from Pomona, also postponed to Saturday, saw KB Titan Racing’s Dallas Glenn defeat Erica Enders of Elite Motorsports in an all-Camaro SS final. Glenn drove to his ninth career Pro Stock victory on a holeshot. He traversed the quarter-mile in 6.537 seconds at 209.14 mph, while Enders turned in a 6.531 at 209.52. However, Glenn left with a .024 reaction time to Enders’ .045, allowing him to reach the stripe first.

On Sunday, Greg Anderson faced off against Glenn in another all-Camaro SS final, this one featuring teammates from KB Titan. Anderson grabbed his first victory of the season and 104th of his career with a 6.582-second pass at 209.97 mph. Glenn meanwhile registered a 6.619 at 208.91.

"To have had the day I had, to have had the weekend I had – I didn't embarrass myself. I did a good job behind the wheel, and I'm really thrilled with that," said Anderson, whose career win total is second only to John Force in the NHRA professional categories. "That's what it takes to win in this class; you have to have the total package, the best car, the best crew, and you have to drive well. We were able to put all of that together on a very, very tricky racetrack, and everybody, top to bottom on this team, was on their toes. We didn't necessarily outrun or outpower them, but we flat outraced everybody."

Anderson’s win was the 385th Pro Stock victory for Chevrolet since 1970 and the 266th in the Camaro.

With four event wins in the Pro categories at Firebird Motorsports Park, Team Chevy turned in a weekend for the ages.
