EV Ownership

Answers to our most commonly asked questions about EV maintenance, recalls, and warranties.

Maintenance & service

How much maintenance is required for an EV vehicle?

EV’s do not require oil changes, transmission flushes, engine belt and air filter replacements or spark plugs for you to service. With features like One Pedal Driving*, you can even see reduced wear on your brakes.

Who do I contact if I have a concern with my vehicle?

Your satisfaction and goodwill are important to your dealer and to Chevrolet. Normally, any concerns with the sales transaction or the operation of your vehicle will be resolved by your dealer's sales or service departments. The first step is to discuss your concern with a member of dealership management. Normally, concerns can be quickly resolved at that level. To locate a Chevrolet dealer, please visit the Chevrolet Dealer Locator.

Why are Certified Service-trained technicians different?

These automotive experts use only Genuine GM Parts & Accessories that are designed specifically for your Chevrolet. They're also tested for performance and reliability. For more details, please visit Certified Service.

Recall Information

How do I know if my vehicle has been included in a recall?

Chevrolet will notify all customers of affected recalls in writing within 60 days of the recall announcement. To determine sooner if your vehicle is involved in a recall, check out the GM Recall and Warranty center or consult NHTSA.

What is the defect in recalled Bolt EV batteries?

The problem consists of two LG manufacturing defects (a torn anode tab and folded separator) that, in rare circumstances, can simultaneously present in a single battery cell in the LG battery module.

When do you expect to have all the recalled Bolt EVs repaired?

We are working aggressively with LG to adjust production to have replacement modules available as soon as possible.

Can GM provide more specifics related to the warranty?

General Motors warrants new or refurbished advanced propulsion batteries installed under this recall against defects in material or workmanship for the warranty coverage period of 8 Years/100,000 Miles (whichever comes first). GM will repair or replace the part, in its sole discretion, at no charge if the part fails due to a defect in material or workmanship during the warranty coverage period (Note: Labor is also covered if installed by a GM EV Dealer). This limited parts warranty begins at the time of installation.

What confidence does GM have that the replacement modules won’t have the same defects?

GM will only begin replacing battery modules in customer vehicles when GM and LG are confident in the safety of LG’s product.

I moved and no longer live near a dealership who can work on EVs. What am I supposed to do?

Our concierge team is here to work with you (message or phone) and help you locate the nearest certified Chevrolet EV dealer when parts are available or for other service needs.

When will parts for my vehicle be available?

We are working aggressively to have replacement modules available as soon as possible. We understand that waiting can be frustrating. We will notify you through e-mail or direct mail when replacement parts are ready.

Where can I continue to check for updates or information on my vehicle?

We are working to add information and update frequently asked questions regularly on this web site.

EV warranty

What is the 100,000-Mile/8-year battery warranty?

Certain electric propulsion components on Chevrolet electric vehicles are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, including the high voltage battery. See dealer for details.

What does the Bumper-to-Bumper Limited warranty cover?

The Bumper-to-Bumper New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers vehicles registered in the U.S. from the date the vehicle is first delivered until it reaches 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. It covers all vehicle components if there is an issue due to defects in materials and/or workmanship. For further details, look in the Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual under "What Is Covered" and "What Is Not Covered" or check out our Warranty Page.

Is my vehicle covered from rust, too?

Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against corrosion for the first 3 years/36,000 miles and rust-through protection lasts for the first 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is neither necessary nor required under the Sheet Metal Coverage. Chevrolet makes no recommendations concerning the usefulness or value of such products. Application of after-manufacture rustproofing products may create an environment that reduces the corrosion resistance built into your vehicle. Repairs to correct damage caused by such applications are not covered under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. See your Chevrolet dealer for terms of this limited warranty.
